SANT' ELENA 1998 ROS DI ROL BORDEAUX BLEND - FRIULI VENEZIE GIULIA, ITALY 750ML
By - Posted on 05 January 2013
Grapes: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot
Region: Nothern Italy> Friuli-Venezia Guilla> Isonzo.
Notes: Oak aged. Low Yields. Hand harvested.
Complex flavors of red berries, tobacco, and leather. Full-bodied, yet light on the palate. Layers of complex characteristics are exhibited due to the slow, 24 month, aging process in new French oak barrels.
Located in Gradisca d'Isonzo in the northeast corner of Italy, only 11 km from the Slovenian border. The Sant'Elena estate was founded in the late 19th century, but it wasn't until the 1960's the estate switched entirely to wine production during the 1960's. The single vineyard sits on iron rich alluvial soil with good drainage. Oceanic influences from the nearby Adriatic Sea keeps them cool during the summer months. The grapes are hand harvested and de-stemmed before lightly pressed. The wine is aged for 2 years in new small French barrels.
Rich, with a vibrant core of red fruits, fresh acidity and earthy, mineral hints. This is showing like a classic, right bank Bordeaux! Hold or Drink thru 2019...
