B Cellars - Premiere Napa Valley Insight
| Every year, the Napa Valley Vintners Association hosts Premiere Napa Valley, a barrel tasting and wine auction where participating vintners offer wines produced exclusively for this program. Only a few cases of each one-of-a-kind wine are made from a special blend, clone or vineyard designation chosen by the vintner. Each is produced just once and is available only to the highest bidder. The wine you are looking at is such a wine. We are the proud winners of the B Cellars 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot #161. We hope you enjoy this original piece of Napa Valley. Kirk Venge
Winemaker, Venge Vineyards / B Cellars
Country born: USA
Education:
Bachelors of Science, Viticulture and Enology, UC Davis, 1998
Winery experience: 10-15 years
Bio:
I began by following my father around at Villa Mt. Eden, now Plumpjack, back in the late 1970's. From there he moved to Groth and I got to know my way around the crush pad. In 1995 I entered into the Vit. and Enol. program at Davis and in '98 graduated with a B.S. degree. In 1999 I began work for the Venge label and in 2008 took the brand over. In addition, I've been a consulting winemaker for the past 10 years.
Kirk earned his degree in Viticulture and Enology at the University of California, Davis, graduating in 1998. He worked diligently in summer internships as the experimental winemaker for Mumm Napa Valley, where he focused on producing still Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. A post-graduation harvest in New Zealand and time traveling the great wine regions of Europe would prove him ready to take on making the Venge Family Reserve wines in 2003.
Winemaking philosophy:
Make wine in the vineyard and never stop reinventing yourself. Be patient with wine and don't force a wine to be something it won't. Take time in creating the art of the unseen.
