"The 2005 Exaltos Cepas Viejas is made from 100% Mencia. It offers up a complex perfume of cinnamon, mineral, iodine, saline, leather, and plum. It sounds like an odd concoction but it works. This is followed by a smooth-textured, savory, ripe wine with excellent depth, balance, and length. Drink it over the next five years."

One can appreciate all the subtlety and elegance of the Mencía grape. Visually it is an attractive cherry red colour, with violet tones around the rim. In the nose it offers strong fruity aromas of raspberries and cherries, as well as flowery hints of violet, which form a harmonious ensemble with the wood with hints of liquorice, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, and spices. In the mouth it is smooth, full bodied, and elegant, with the haracteristic traits of the Mencía grape blended with thetoasted flavours of the oak casks noticeable in the retronasal.
