90 POINTS ANDRES MONTOYA:
Bodegas y Viñedos O. Fournier was founded in 2000 in Argentina, and today owns estates in Mendoza and Ribera del Duero (Spain). Torrontés has quickly become Argentina's signature grape for distinctive white wine, and the La Consulta region where the O. Fournier winery is located, sits approximately 1,200 metres (3,950 ft.) above sea level. At this altitude, there is a significant fluctuation between daytime and night-time temperatures . This variance particularly favors the production of wines with an excellent colour and suitable for long ageing in oak barrels.
The region´s stony and sandy soils offer excellent drainage during the summer season. The lack of organic material, limited rainfall and prevailing winds are also conductive to high quality, healthy grapes. Furthermore, the water that irrigates the estates comes pure and clean from the snow thawing on the Andes.
Produced using environmentally-friendly practices, the Urban Uco Torrontés 2009 is rich, fruit forward and floral. Ripe pear and tangerine flavors are found along with jasmine and honeysuckle aromas. Perfect as an after-work aperitif, or for your next poolside gathering, enjoy this *high-altitude* specialty, (Salta is known to be the source for Argentina's best Torrontés), with seafood and fish. This "Green" wine pairs particularly well with Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian cuisine.
